As a Cloud Engineer, you will help support the AOUSC CMSO in its modernization effort for one of its mission-critical applications used by U.S. district and appellate court staff and external users. CMSO has a mature agile practice using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and supports a broad range of complex business systems which are instrumental to the AOUSC mission.

HOW A Cloud Engineer WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Support the customer and the application move to cloud services for development and production environments, including FinOps and licensing in the cloud.
  • Implement and design server, network, and software configurations for a cloud computing infrastructure and applications with a focus on DevOps principles.
  • Support large scale infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques (IaaS/PaaS) including application migrations to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Support cloud solution resources, both IaaS and PaaS, that enable the business to securely run sensitive workloads within a cloud.
  • Track and maintain cloud resources (e.g., compute, storage, networking).
  • Implement and enforce tagging policies to improve asset visibility and cost attribution.
  • Monitor resource utilization, identify underused assets, and recommend rightsizing or decommissioning.
  • Ensure cloud assets adhere to security, governance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Analyze cloud spend, generate cost reports, and provide visibility into cloud expenses.
  • Work with financial teams to forecast cloud costs and set budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, such as reserved instances, savings plans, or spot instances.
  • Set up alerts for unusual cost spikes and investigate potential overspending.
  • Ensure cloud resources are used efficiently while supporting performance and scalability.
  • Assist in establishing policies for resource provisioning, usage limits, and cost control.
  • Build dashboards for real-time financial insights.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education and Experience
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with deploying and managing applications and systems to commercial private clouds.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of security compliance and security control.
  • Extensive administration experience in GPU-based platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing computing performance and measurement.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience with cloud governance, IAM policies, and security best practices.
  • Understanding of cloud pricing models, including on-demand, reserved instances, savings plans, and spot instances.
  • Experience with cost monitoring tools like AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or Google Cloud Billing.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, chargeback/showback models, and cloud financial governance.
  • Experience in cloud asset inventory management, including tracking and optimizing cloud resources.
  • Experience Implementing compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with APIs & SDKs to pull cost and usage data from cloud platforms.
  • Experience with dashboarding & visualization tools.

Required Skills and Abilities Skills :
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of cloud technology, including Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
  • Proficient skills in shell scripting, Ruby, Perl, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with cloud services like compute (EC2, VMs), storage (S3, Bob, GCS), databases (RDS, SQL), and networking.
  • Ability to analyze cost reports, detect anomalies, and implement cost optimization strategies.
  • Knowledge of tagging strategies to allocate costs effectively.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like AWS Config, Azure Policy, or Google Cloud Asset Inventory.
  • Familiarity with SQL or Excel for data analysis.
  • Ability to work closely with engineering, finance, procurement, and leadership teams.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to identify priorities to accomplish a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with people at every level.

The likely salary range for this position is $89,250 - $120,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
