Job Description

Texas Tech University is seeking a highly motivated and strategic fundraising professional to serve as the next Director of Development for the Rawls College of Business . This is a key leadership role within the Office of Advancement, responsible for cultivating major donor relationships, managing a robust portfolio, and driving philanthropic support aligned with the mission of the Rawls College and the broader goals of Texas Tech University.

Reporting to university advancement leadership and working in close collaboration with the Dean of the Rawls College, this position plays a pivotal role in Texas Tech’s comprehensive campaign, On & On , which seeks to raise $1.2 billion by 2028. The successful candidate will demonstrate proven fundraising success, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to lead development initiatives that generate transformational support for higher education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of 100–150 major gift prospects with capacity for significant philanthropic investment.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors whose interests align with the strategic priorities of the Rawls College of Business and Texas Tech University.
  • Craft compelling proposals and close major gifts that support scholarships, faculty initiatives, programs, and strategic capital projects.
  • Develop and implement annual fundraising plans, tracking performance metrics such as visits, solicitations, and portfolio engagement.
  • Collaborate with college leadership and Advancement staff to align fundraising strategies with institutional goals.
  • Oversee and support advancement budgets, stewardship strategies, and events related to donor engagement.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Texas Tech and the Rawls College at alumni, university, and community events.
  • Supervise and mentor development staff assigned to Rawls College, fostering a high-performing, donor-centered team culture.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and donor interaction documentation in the alumni and donor CRM system.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in development or a related field (e.g., sales, business development), or a combined equivalent of education and experience totaling at least nine (9) years.
  • Demonstrated success managing a major gift portfolio, including securing five- and six-figure gifts or greater.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices, including donor engagement, planned giving, and campaign management.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
  • Proven success in closing seven-figure philanthropic gifts.
  • Knowledge of and experience within higher education development or alumni relations.
