SENIOR PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – ANGELES DISTRICT / TOPANGA SECTOR / TOPANGA STATE PARK

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The reporting location for this position is Topanga State Park of the Angeles District. The incumbent will work at multiple locations including Will Rogers State Historic Park and Topanga State Park- Trippet Ranch and Lower Topanga. The Senior Park Aide will work under the supervision of the Staff Park and Recreation Specialist with direction from the Staff Services Analyst overseeing the Visitor Services Program.

The incumbent will perform routine public contact, inform the public of the rules and regulations of the park, operate entrance stations, collect fees, maintain accountability documents, perform interpretive activities, assist in maintenance and housekeeping of facilities and grounds, operate state equipment and perform resource management work. The Senior Park Aide will primarily conduct visitor services contacts, providing guidance and information about the park, as well as education and interpretation of park rules. The employee will assist both the Staff Park and Recreation Specialist and Staff Services Analyst with ideas and solutions to issues related to protecting the historic park and surrounding community, as well as inform supervisor of any hazards or issues. The incumbent will assist with interpretive enforcement of park rules while supporting and monitoring special events. This position will enforce parking restrictions, interpret rules and regulations, and protect State Park property.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions

Works in various kiosks and multiple park units. May be required to work outside in various conditions including hot, dry or inclement weather. Standing for long periods of time, walking, hiking, and climbing stairs is required. May need to lift up to 25 lbs.
