Job Description

Position Title: Special Education Coordinator

Department: Academic

Reports To: Principal

Position Summary:

We are seeking a collaborative and knowledgeable educational professional to implement and facilitate campus special education processes and procedures. This individual will partner with campus staff and multidisciplinary teams to support instructional initiatives, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and Child Study Team (CST)/ARD processes. The ideal candidate will also cultivate strong communication and partnerships with parents, staff, and community members to address and reduce barriers to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and interventions to ensure 
  • instructional fidelity and effectiveness.
  • Advises and guides staff on Sunshine CST/ARD processes, ensuring alignment with procedural and compliance 
  • standards.
  • Collaborates in the development and execution of campus improvement plans, academic programming, and 
  • student-centered interventions.
  • Leads collaboration with educators to design differentiated, modified, and inclusive curriculum strategies that 
  • address diverse learner needs.
  • Facilitates and contributes to data-driven discussions in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance 
  • instructional planning and improve student outcomes.
  • Coordinates with and provides oversight to related personnel and contracted providers to ensure quality and 
  • compliance in service delivery.
  • Establishes and maintains systematic communication structures among stakeholders regarding CST/ARD 
  • outcomes, academic planning, and instructional accommodations/modifications.
  • Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local compliance mandates related to students with disabilities, serving 
  • as a liaison to campus administrators.
  • Designs and delivers professional learning and coaching on assessment, compliance, instructional strategies, and 
  • transition processes while serving as a strategic resource for staff, families, and leadership.
  • Assist with drop-off and pick-up process to ensure the safety, efficiency and smooth transition of students, while 
  • enforcing school policies and communicating effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to include supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Individual must possess a bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field. Minimum of 3-5 years’ proven 
  • experience as a special education teacher required.
  • Master’s degree in special education, educational leadership, or related field preferred. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in roles such as department head, instructional coach, or program 
  • coordinator, with a proven ability to guide, mentor, train and support instructional teams. 
  • Demonstrated ability to assess student progress, evaluate programs, and leverage data to improve instruction 
  • while proactively addressing challenges related to student needs, staffing, and compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and applicable state and 
  • federal special education regulations, with a strong track record of ensuring Individualized Education Plan (IEP) 
  • development, implementation, and compliance.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and build partnerships with staff, parents, and Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) to support student success and program 
  • implementation.

Certificates:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements is required. 
  • Valid Special Education certificate is required. 
  • Administrative certificate(s) preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
